Patterson Brothers Automotive was started in 2007, but our automotive service roots run deeper than that.

Patterson Brothers Automotive is operated by Bill Patterson. Bill started working on cars with his dad and fortified his hobby when he took an automotive shop class in high school. After serving four years in the United States Marine Corps, Bill began working on industrial equipment and eventually moved on to be a mechanic for an Indy car racing team. In 2002, Bill began working on passenger cars, which eventually led him to start Patterson Brothers Automotive with his brother, Jared.

At 35 miles per hour attempted to accelerate up hill and automatic transmission slipped until manually down shifted. Vehicle may need automatic transmission rebuilt or replaced.

  • Inspected vehicle and confirmed customers concern. Found serpentine belt tensioner bearing bad and making noise. Could possible have some noise from alternator. Tested alternator and it is charging properly. Vehicle is 300 miles from being due for engine oil and filter change. On test drive felt slight transmission slip between gears. Transmission fluid is dark and needs to be serviced.
  • Replaced serpentine belt tensioner. Verified tensioner operation. Most noise is gone. Alternator is intermittently making a bearing noise. Will need to replace alternator soon.
  • Serviced automatic transmission. Refilled transmission to the proper level. Added transmission additive. Performed scan tool procedure for verify fluid level. Test drove vehicle and verified transmission operation.
  • Replaced alternator assembly. Verified alternator charging at manufacture recommended voltage. Verified all noises when accelerating are repaired.
  • Lubricate and check chassis. Change oil and oil filter. Check air filter and breather filter. Check all fluid levels and tire pressures. Preform basic safety inspection.

  • Flushed out power steering system. Refilled to proper level. Added power steering conditioner. Test drove and verified power steering operation.
  • Inspected vehicle and got it to start with accelerator pedal depressed to the floor. Engine had heavy gasoline build up. Found air filter dirty and needs to be replaced. Spark plugs are over gaped. Recommend replacing spark plugs. Vehicle may have misfire. Will need to replace spark plugs first. Engine oil and filter are due to be replaced. Power steering is dirty and needs to be service. Rear disc brake pads are below 1mm remaining and rotors are below minimum thickness. Recommend replacing rear disc brake pads and rotors. Front disc brake rotors have rust build up. Will need to clean rust from front rotors. Vehicle battery is weak and needs to be replaced. Both front CV axles have torn boot. Recommend replacing both front CV axles.
  • Lubricate and check chassis. Change oil and oil filter. Check air filter and breather filter. Check all fluid levels and tire pressures. Preform basic safety inspection.
  • Replaced left front CV axle assembly. Test drove vehicle and verified repair.
  • Replaced rear disc brake pads and rotors. Test drove vehicle and verified repair.
  • Replaced right front CV axle assembly. Test drove vehicle and verified repair.
  • Replaced spark plugs and 3 of the ignition coil connectors due to the connectors being heat cracked. After replacing spark plugs and connectors found Ignition coils 1, 3, and 5 intermittently misfiring. Replaced ignition coil 1, 3 and 5.. test drove vehicle and verified repairs.

  • Inspected vehicle and found battery cables not making contact with battery. Attached battery cable correctly to battery. Vehicle now starts.
  • Inspected vehicle ignition system. verified power and ground to ignition. Power and ground are present. Found lock control solenoid intermittently not operating and releasing ignition lock cylinder to go into the key release position. Removed cover from floor shifter and tested park interlock solenoid. Shift interlock responds to brake pedal being depressed but will intermittently not send voltage to ignition switch to release key. Recommend replacing shift interlock solenoid.
  • Inspected vehicle. Found left front lower rear control arm bushing has come apart and has excessive movement. Recommend replacing both lower control arm bushings. Left tie rod lock nut was loose. Threads on inner and outer tie rod are damaged. Vehicle is unsafe to drive in this condition. Recommend replacing left front inner and outer tie rods and realigning vehicle. Rear disc brake pads are at or below 1 mm remaining and rotors are below minimum thickness. Recommend replacing rear disc brake pads and rotors. Engine air filter is dirty and needs to be replaced. Engine oil and filter is due to be replaced.
  • Replaced Shift interlock solenoid. Verified shift lever operation. Verified key release lock solenoid is operating as designed.

  • Replaced right side sending unit. Verified fuel gauge operation.
  • Replaced spark plugs and coil boots. Requires removal of upper intake. Replaced upper intake gasket. Repaired 2 dry rotted vacuum lines at intake manifold. Cleaned throttle body during reassembly. Test drove vehicle and verified repair.
  • Vehicle has fault codes P1564 – ASCD switch voltage signal out of range and P0463 – fuel level sensor circuit signal high / open. Vehicle has a very slow crank. Charged battery the tested starting and charging system. Battery will not hold the proper charge. State of health is 5%. Cold cranking amps is 400cca out of 650cca at 60 degrees. Recommend replacing battery.

  • Inspected vehicle and scanned for fault codes. Found fault codes P0016 – Crank angle incorrect and P0128 – thermostat threshold below operating temperature. Recommend start with replacing harmonic balancer and timing cover then test drive vehicle to see if any fault codes return.
  • Inspected vehicle and verified customer concern. Found harmonic balancer has made contact with timing cover and upper oil pan. The harmonic balancer is coming apart and is rotating at an angle. Recommend to start with replacing harmonic balancer, serpentine belt, timing cover and upper oil pan. There may be more repairs needed once timing components are inspected once timing cover is removed.
