Patterson Brothers Automotive was started in 2007, but our automotive service roots run deeper than that.

Patterson Brothers Automotive is operated by Bill Patterson. Bill started working on cars with his dad and fortified his hobby when he took an automotive shop class in high school. After serving four years in the United States Marine Corps, Bill began working on industrial equipment and eventually moved on to be a mechanic for an Indy car racing team. In 2002, Bill began working on passenger cars, which eventually led him to start Patterson Brothers Automotive with his brother, Jared.

  • Inspected vehicle and verified customers concern. Scanned vehicle systems for fault codes. Found fault code P0016 – camshaft correlation bank 1 sensor A. Test drove vehicle scan tool monitoring vehicle system. No misfires detected. Cam correlation values are correct. Vehicle has no driveability issues. Inspected all wiring and connectors to timing components. All sensor solenoids are properly connected. Engine oil is very dark and oil change reminder sticker show oil change is 10,000 mile past due. Drained engine oil and removed filter. No metal found suspended in engine oil. Cut open engine oil filter to inspect for debris. No debris or metal found in engine oil. Installed new oil filter and new engine oil. Cleared codes and test drove vehicle. Scan tool showed P0016 code did set but did not illuminate check engine light. All cam sensor are reading correctly. Engine as no symptoms to cause code P0016. Advised customer that all systems are working properly. Condition that is causing P0016 may need to be more frequent to be able to determine cause.

  • Inspected vehicle and verified customer concern. Scanned vehicle for codes and found historical code P0299 – turbo under boost. Test drove vehicle to try and get fault code to reset. Fault code did not reset. Monitored turbocharger boost with scan tool on test drive. Turbocharger boost within manufacture specifications. Followed trouble shooting procedures for code P0299. Checked for restricted intake, Inspected charge air tubes for leaks, Inspected air box multiair for broken actuator rod and doors. Performed smoke teat on turbocharger system. No leaks found. Removed and inspected TMAP sensor. Found sensor has carbon build up. Cleaned TMAP sensor and test drove vehicle again. All systems are operating as designed at this time. No fault codes returned.

Inspected vehicle evaporative system. Verified fuel cap is secure and tight. Performed evaporative purge valve test. Disconnected power to the purge valve. Started engine and checked for vacuum at hose leading to purge valve. Vacuum is present and indicating that purge valve is stuck in the open condition. Recommend replacing evaporative purge valve the retesting system.
  • Test drove vehicle and verified customers concern. Check automatic transmission fluid. Found fluid is dark and 1 1/2 quarts low on transmission fluid. Scanned transmission system for fault codes. No fault codes present at this time. Found both engine mounts have come apart and allowing to move excessively in engine compartment. worn engine mounts will cause a harsh shift condition. Test drove vehicle will fluid at correct level. Transmission is holding gears longer than normal with fluid at proper level. With motor mounts in bad condition it is difficult to determine the exact condition of the automatic transmission. Recommend replacing worn engine mount and reassessing automatic transmission condition.
  • Test drove vehicle and verified customers concern. Inspected vehicles suspension and found front strut assembly are worn and leaking. Recommend replacing front strut assemblies and aligning vehicle. Tires have inside shoulder wear. Recommend replacing all 4 tires.
  • Replaced evaporative purge solenoid. Verified purge valve open and closes as designed. Cleared fault code and test drove vehicle. No fault codes returned.

Found low side service port damaged and low side hose from accumulator to compressor seal at compressor damaged. recommend replacing low side hose and retesting.

Found leak at gas cap. The gas cap is incorrect. Installed new gas cap and cleared fault codes. Test drove vehicle and no codes returned.
  • Replaced accumulator to compressor hose assembly.
  • Evacuated and recharge air conditioning system with correct amount of R134A refrigerant. Tested system for leaks no leaks found. Verified air conditioner operation.

  • Inspected vehicle for oil leak. Found oil filter leaking. Tried ti tighten oil but it continued to leak. Engine is knocking from bottom end of engine during idle at operating temperature. Water pump is leaking, Rear main seal is leaking and front crank seal is leaking. Recommend replacing engine assembly.
  • Inspected windshield washer reservoir for leaks. No leaks found. Washer system operating as designed.
  • Replaced engine long block assembly. New Intake manifold gaskets, valve cover gaskets, Spark plugs, spark plug wires, air filter, water pump. accessory drive belts, radiator, radiator hoses, knock sensors, knock sensor connector, engine mounts and oil pressure sensor. Test drove vehicle multiple times and went through several engine heat ups and cool downs.

Check engine light was flashing then went off. Scanned vehicle systems for fault codes. Fault code P0300 – misfire detected was stored but not active. Test vehicle charging system. Alternator is currently producing 14.5 volts under a load. Recommend replacing vehicle battery and retesting system.

  • Test drove vehicle and verified customers concern. Verified all HVAC controls are working properly. Check Vehicles cooling system and found coolant level very low. Filled coolant to the proper level and heater is now working properly. Pressure tested cooling and let it sit for 24 hour and monitored leak down. Coolant pressure did leak down. Removed spark plugs and checked for signs of coolant in combustion chambers. No coolant found in cylinders. Found coolant hoses to transmission warmer leaking. Recommend replacing transmission warmer hoses and retest for any additional leaks.
  • Scanned vehicle system for fault codes. Found fault code P0217 – coolant over temperature condition. No active reduced power condition present at this time. Reduced power condition was active due to very low coolant in cooling system.
  • Replaced both transmission warmer coolant hoses. Refilled cooling system to the proper level. Brought engine up to operating temperature and verified cooling system operation. Cleared all fault codes and test drove vehicle. no codes returned and verified no additional leaks found at this time.

  • Test drove vehicle. Was unable to duplicate any kind of whining noise. Inspected engine compartment with engine at different rpms. No unusual noise heard at this time. Scanned vehicle systems for fault codes. Found fault code P0171 – system too lean bank 1. Inspected vehicle for possible intake leak causing unmetered air to get engine. Found crank case ventilation diaphragm in valve cover leaking. Recommend replacing engine valve cover. engine air filter is dirty. Cleaned mass air flow meter. Upon inspection found automatic transmission fluid is dark and due to be serviced.
  • Inspected cooling system for leaks. No visual leaks found. Pressure test cooling system and no leaks were found at this time.
  • Replaced valve cover. Coil pack boots tore coming out and cracking coil pack. Replaced ignition system coil pack. Cleared fault codes and test drove vehicle. No fault codes returned.
  • Service transmission. Refilled transmission to the proper level. Brought transmission up to operating temperature and verified fluid level. Test drove vehicle and verified automatic transmission operation.
